Park-n-Discover, by ParkApps, explores the six strands of informal science learning. While navigating the park, Park-n-Discover will engage users in their surroundings using GPS-enabled mobile devices. The findings that emerge from Park-n-Discover have strong potential to inform both design of informal learning experiences as well as further research, policy, and practice on such devices. The program will collect volunteered demographic data, which will help further inform the public and CVNP as to the attendance of park visitors. The infrastructure for research and education will be enhanced as the project is attempting to find new ways to capture passive data in informal environments. For instance, a reverse mapping feature will allow park scientists to understand what parts of the park are being utilized. The project will benefit society because it addresses teaching the public not only about important species in their region, but also about important concepts like pollution, erosion, and ecosystem health.
